Synergetic Spinal Mechanics and PPT Manipulation

Passive Prone Techniques

A new protocol for Manipulation

Passive Prone Techniques were developed by J.R.Bayliss and are a direct result of his ground breaking discoveries in synergetic spinal mechanics.  PPT’s as they are known offer an advanced form of manipulative technique that provides outstanding results.

PPT’s, are not ‘applied techniques’ in other words they are not modifications to existing manipulative procedures.  PPT’s were worked out from an entirely new set of protocols based on the new and more comprehensive understanding of spinal mechanics.

Gone are the contorted body positions that locked the spine in preparation for manipulation and the high velocity thrusts. Instead the body is placed in a relaxed comfortable prone position and the actual manipulation itself is no more than a gentle push.  Because the patient is relaxed and passive they have no knowledge of  if and when the manipulation will take place. So there is no pre-manipulative patient anticipation or tensing.

But do not let this fool you into thinking the PPT’s have little effect. PPT’s use the long levers of the body to align the body in the exact position needed to correct the joint together with a short lever push. High degrees of accuracy are possible with outstanding results. Even what the old Osteopaths called *complicated lesions can easily be remedied.

This is not all, because the PPT’s leave a very small trauma footprint on the joint manipulated, more joints can be manipulated per session which means less treatment sessions are needed. The bonus of manipulating more than a few joints is that in one treatment session every joint from the sacroiliac joints to the top thoracic joint can be manipulated. Because of  this, it possible to reach levels of spinal alignment that were not possible before. Hence the nickname  PPT’s  ‘True Spinal Alignment’

Because of their gentleness, PPT’s can be used on certain types of patients who would not have previously been suitable for manipulation.

Patients who have had treatments with PPT’s have found after the session that they **feel taller, more mobile, and can see in the mirror that they are clearly more symmetrical.

It all sounds too good to be true but it is fact.

PPT’s work by making the joint to be manipulated malleable and then reversing the forces that caused the lesion. There are no drugs, oils, vibration or special tools. The joint relaxation comes from using the physiology of the spine to advantage.   When you see how PPT’s work you will impressed.

Details of the techniques and protocol can be found in the book by J.R.Bayliss called The Theory of Synergetic Spinal Mechanics and PPT Manipulation’ and the DVD: ‘Osteopathic Manipulation - Passive Prone Technique’

*complicated lesions are Osteopathic lesions/Chiropractic subluxations that lock a joint in one set of directions and then double lock it  in by forces from other directions.

** Height measurement tests were conducted. Some patients were found to be as much as 1/3 inch higher after treatment than before.

On average it was approximately ¼ inch.
