Introduction

The DVD is 1 hour 38 minutes long and comprises of eleven chapters that describe many of John Bayliss’s synergetic theories on spinal mechanics. The film shows how joints articulate and become locked on each other and go on to develop subluxation patterns that result in posture dysfunction. Two model types are used to predict  the outcome of  the spinal curves.  

 

The Two Models

In the majority of healthy people L3 will either side-bend one way and rotate another in lumbar flexion or rotate and side-bend to the same side in lumbar extension.

 

The DVD is directed towards the mechanics of the sacroiliac and spinal joints in normal working conditions and posture dysfunction.

The DVD is kept as simple as a complicated subject like spinal mechanics can be. The DVD starts at an elementary level by describing and showing the shapes of the individual facet surfaces and how each bone  articulates against their adjoining bone. As the chapters progress the content becomes more advanced as the relationship between individual joints and other parts of the moving spine interact and work synchronously. There is even a special chapter to demonstrate how the sacroiliac and lumbar joints articulate to enhance the walking mechanism.

 

There are chapters show how subluxations develop and become complicated. The final chapters show how the subluxations distort  the musculo-skeletal frame and produce definable torsion curves that result in posture dysfunction.  

 

 

Side-Shift

Side-shift is the movement all professional therapists know about yet until now failed to understand its importance. Watch a person walking in front of you and you will see the pelvis swaying from side to side with every stride. This is not a decorative feature, it is far more than that. Because to understand side-shift is to understand how the spine and sacroiliac joints articulate.

 

To understand how the spine and sacroiliac joints subluxate is to understand how side-shift, weight distribution combined with incorrect forward or backward bending causes the joints to lock tight.  These topics are explained in much detail within the DVD.

 

 

Why make a DVD to Illustrate the New Theories

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and a moving picture is worth many many more. Spinal mechanics and the science of how joints lock against each other is a complicated subject. Therefore the subject is made much easier to understand  when the joints can actually be seen moving against each other, together with the forces that cause that movement.  The DVD is both a learning module for the student  and a place of  reference for the most seasoned professional. The DVD can be stopped and replayed over and over at will and can then be moved on as the user becomes more advanced in their understanding of spinal mechanics and how joints lock against each other.
