Spinal Mechanics

Synergetic Spinal Mechanics and PPT Manipulation

Synergetic Spinal Mechanics and PPT Manipulation

Full Colour Professional Edition 2

BOOK: The Theory of  Synergetic

Spinal Mechanics and PPT Manipulation

by J.R.Bayliss

BOOK: The Theory of  Synergetic Spinal Mechanics and PPT Manipulation

Overview

The original version of this unique book was like no other book on the subject of spinal articulation and manipulation that had ever gone before and has sold all over the world. It showed for the first time how the sacroiliac and spinal joints articulate seamlessly and how the forces that create spinal movement when misdirected cause *subluxations/lesions and the subluxation patterns that develop and distort the human frame. The book also introduced new protocol in manipulation called PPT.

Edition 2 of this book takes the subject of spinal articulation, how subluxations and lesions are created and manipulation to an even higher level of understanding by including the rib cage and shoulder girdle. There are five additional chapters detailing how these areas seamlessly integrate with the spine while allowing breathing to take place. It also shows the consequences group pattern subluxations and lesions inflict on the breathing mechanism and the distortions that result and change the symmetry of the rib cage and shoulder joints. Exciting new PP, CP and CS manipulative techniques are introduced to show how to correct these additional areas.

In writing this new edition the opportunity was also taken to update and revise some of the existing chapters to make them easier to understand.

Chapters

The book is divided into 20 chapters  (5 new ones have been added for edition 2). The book  is suitable for both students and advanced professionals.   The book  begins at  an elementary level and builds up with each chapter to a very  advanced level.  The book is both a training and reference manual, in one.

Outline of Contents

Each chapter of this unique book shows practical examples, tests and routines that can be easily replicated in order that the reader gains a better understanding of the protocol behind the synergetic theories. The book illustrates the mechanics behind normal physiological movement during, breathing, ambulation, rotation and side-bending and why and how joints subluxate. The chapters go on to describe how subluxation patterns develop and how they relate to common types of posture dysfunction. And of course last but not least, the protocol behind PPT manipulation and how to practically manipulate with  PPT’s.

PPT Manipulation Heralds in a New Era

The effectiveness and results gained with PPT’s together with their ease of use is sure to take the science of manipulative therapy  to a new level.   PPT’s were discovered and developed by osteopath J.R.Bayliss as a direct result of  his new spinal theories and the knowledge he gained from understanding how joints subluxate. Discovering PPT’s was simply a matter of reversing the forces.

PPT’s are genuine manipulative techniques where the joint can actually be felt sliding back into place under your finger tips. Even really tight and what the ‘Old Osteopaths' called complicated lesions can be corrected with minimal effort.  The professionalism comes in knowing the exact order the joints need correcting. See for yourself the posture changes that  can be achieved after two PPT sessions

PPT’s are so gentle they can be used with care on the young and old alike where conventional manipulation would be contra-indicated.

Why change what is not broken?

Up until now there were two main sacroiliac articulation theories. The ‘Nutation Theory’ and the ‘Three Pole’ theory’. Both theories are very similar and rely on the articular surfaces of the sacrum and the Ilium having the magical ability to semi-dislocate and reseat themselves every time a person takes a step forward. Common sense dictates that any joint theory that includes dislocation as part of the joints normal physiology, is extremely questionable.

For the sake of argument, lets assume normal movement followed one of these theories. This means that the joint at some stage the joint would be in a state of semi-dislocation at any given time. Therefore, when it comes to manipulation what do you attempt to correct?  The area where the joint is at the point of semi-dislocation or the area where it is reseated? According to the theories, both are correct?

The ‘Bayliss Sacroiliac Theory’ introduced in this book, as a part of a raft of synergetic spinal theories, describes how the surfaces of the sacroiliac joints articulate in a away that guides the legs during the walking action whilst providing the necessary driving  force needed to guide spinal adaptation etc.  And all this with the facets correctly seated at all times. Further the ‘Bayliss Sacroiliac Theory’ not only allows for the action of walking forwards and backwards but  it also allows for how the sacroiliac influence spinal rotation and side-bending in both forward and backward bending. This is something the focus ‘Nutation’ and the ‘Three Pole’ theories did not even come close to embracing.

General

The 240 page book itself  is in quality paperback format, sized 11”x 8.5” and has been designed in such a way that the manipulative therapist can show some of the simpler colour illustrations and photographs to patients as illustrations of their condition.  This is the book every Osteopath, Chiropractor and Physiotherapist will want to keep on their desktop.

* The definition of subluxation according to the ‘Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary’ is stated as ‘a partial or incomplete dislocation’. It this context that the word subluxation is being used.

Introduction

Edition 2 of this book provides detailed descriptions of how the sacroiliac, spine, rib cage and shoulder girdle articulate singularly, synchronously and synergetically, and how these same joints become subluxated.  It also introduces a new set of gentle and noiseless manipulative techniques named PPT’s, CST’s and PST’s. These techniques are based on a totally new set of protocols that are fully explained in the book.

The book is based on the way the human skeletal frame articulates in the ‘real world’ to provide the movements humans take for granted in their every day movements.

It is appreciated that spinal mechanics is a dry subject for some, never the less it is an essential subject for all Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Sports Scientists and those who earn their living getting the ultimate efficiency out of the body for health and fitness. For this reason the book is written as simply as possible and each page of each chapter is packed  with  colour  photographs and illustrations to make text and subject easier to understand.
